Background Information
The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines received funding from the World Bank under the OECS Data for Decision-Making Project. The project is designed to improve the capacity of participating Eastern Caribbean countries to produce and publicly disseminate statistical data for country and regional level analytics. The project is being implemented by Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the OECS Commission. The objective of the project is to strengthen both national and regional level capacities and foster regional coordination.
In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the project is being implemented by the Public Sector Investment Programme Management Unit (PSIPMU) within the Economic and Planning Division of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, and Information Technology and the Statistical Office within the Economic Planning Division, which is responsible for the execution of the project.
Under Component 1 of the project, which is statistical modernization and capacity building, one of the activities of the project is to provide scholarships in the areas of Statistics, Demography, Data Science, or any other related field (as may be agreed upon by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP) and the World Bank) up to $45,000 USD each, to cover the cost for persons who are desirous of pursing bachelors or masters degrees at any of the University of West Indies main campuses, namely Mona in Jamaica, Cave Hill in Barbados, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago and Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda.
Applications are now invited from suitably qualified Vincentian nationals for full scholarships offered by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to pursue studies at the University of the West Indies (Mona, Cave Hill, St. Augustine or Five Islands).
Conditions of the Award
➢ Awards are available for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in statistics, demography, data science or any other related field, (as may be agreed upon by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP) and the World Bank).
➢ Be a citizen of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
➢ Not be a close relative of project official staff. Close relative means a spouse, grandparent, parent, child, grandchild, sibling, or niece or nephew.
➢ Each scholarship will cover cost up to USD$45,000.00.
➢ New students must show proof of acceptance into one of the afore-mentioned programmes.
➢ Continuing students must provide evidence that they are in good academic standing.
➢ Agree, through bonded obligation to work full-time for the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the duration of the length of the degree, plus one (1) additional year, upon completion of your graduate or undergraduate degree programme.
➢ Agree to reimburse applicable funds in case of failure to complete contractual (bonded) obligations under the scholarship programme.

➢ An essay describing the contribution that you will make in advancing the Statistical Office (SO) and/or St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
